Gymnastics balls & exercise balls
Training, therapy & ergonomic seating in one
Versatile training and health products for stability, posture, balance & comfort – ideal for fitness, rehabilitation and office.
Historical context – from rehab ball to fitness classic
The modern exercise ball originated in physiotherapy in the 1960s. Initially developed for motor development in pediatric therapy, it quickly conquered clinics, rehabilitation centers, and later fitness studios.
Today, exercise balls are an indispensable part of core training, back prevention, and healthy sitting.
With the increasing importance of home office and ergonomic workplaces, exercise balls have gained even more popularity.
Gymnastics balls – the all-rounders for stability, balance and posture
Exercise balls have been among the most popular training and therapy tools in fitness, health sports, and physiotherapy for decades. Originally developed for rehabilitation, they are now used in strength training, functional training, yoga, and even in the office to improve posture.
The unstable surface activates the deep muscles and improves posture – a key component for a healthy back. Furthermore, numerous core exercises, stretches, and stabilization programs can be conveniently performed at home.
For particularly high-quality and durable exercise balls, we recommend the Theraband ABS exercise ball. They impress with their anti-burst technology, optimal elasticity, and stability – ideal for fitness, rehabilitation, core training, or active sitting at the office. With a Theraband ball, you train safely, effectively, and comfortably.
Exercise balls – ergonomic seating for the office & home office
Exercise balls promote active, dynamic sitting, strengthen back muscles, and improve posture. They relieve pressure on the spine and help prevent tension in everyday office life.
Many of our exercise balls feature non-slip surfaces and anti-burst technology for maximum safety – for both professional and private use.
For particularly ergonomic and high-quality exercise balls, we recommend VLUV balls. They offer robust anti-burst technology, non-slip surfaces, and optimal comfort for the office, home office, or active sitting at home. You can find more information and our selection here: VLUV Exercise Balls

FAQ
Gymnastics balls can be used for a variety of purposes:
- Fitness: Abdominal, back, leg, core training
- Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy: Injury prevention, muscle building, mobilization
- Office sitting: active sitting, better posture, less tension
- Coordination & Balance: Balance training for children and adults
Gymnastics balls are versatile training devices that promote strength, stability and flexibility.
Exercise balls promote active sitting in the office. They activate the deep muscles, improve posture, and reduce tension in the back and neck. For optimal ergonomics, the ball should be the right size so that the knees are slightly below hip height, and it should be used in intervals.
ABS stands for Anti-Burst System. Exercise balls with ABS do not burst abruptly when damaged, but rather release the air slowly. This increases safety for children, adults, and seniors, making the ball ideal for fitness exercises, physiotherapy, or ergonomic sitting at the office.
A gym ball can reduce back pain because it strengthens the core stabilizing muscles and supports the natural alignment of the spine. When sitting or exercising, the body constantly compensates for small movements – this activates the deep muscles that are often responsible for a stable and pain-free posture.
Note: A gym ball complements ergonomic seating solutions, but does not permanently replace them.
The correct ball size depends on the player's height.
Under 135cm → 45cm
135-155cm → 50-55cm
155-180cm → 60-65cm
180-200cm → 70-75cm
200cm and above → 85cm
A larger ball is suitable for ergonomic sitting, a smaller one for intensive training
A gymnastic ball should be inflated so firmly that it remains stable yet slightly elastic.
Guideline:
- The ball should only give a few centimeters when you sit on it.
- Your knees should be at a 90° angle or slightly lower.
- The ball should not appear "flat" or be easily compressed.
Tip: New balls expand – therefore, reinflate them after 24 hours.
An exercise ball should be cleaned with warm water and a mild detergent. Wipe the ball with a soft cloth and allow it to dry completely. Do not use harsh chemicals, alcohol, or abrasives, as these can damage the surface and impair its burst-resistant properties.
For regular maintenance, a damp microfiber cloth is usually sufficient.
