Ergometers and exercise bikes for a workout that is easy on the joints.
Exercise bikes and ergometers are among the most popular fitness equipment and are suitable for all body sizes, weights or ages. Cycling is generally considered a very efficient and enjoyable way to exercise: The upper body is supported by the saddle and thus relieved, while the pedaling motion by means of pedals is even and gentle on the joints. Cycling is an effective endurance sport that trains the cardiovascular system, strengthens the leg muscles, promotes weight loss and tones the legs and thighs. Cardio workout on ergometer and exercise bike is also ideal for warm-up.

- Upper Body Ergometer : This cardio machine is an effective strength training for arms and upper body.
Ergometer vs. exercise bike
At first glance, ergometers and exercise bikes look alike. Nevertheless, these two pieces of sports equipment differ significantly from each other in the following points:
- Ergometers have a more technically complex design and are therefore often more expensive than exercise bikes.
- The ergometer displays the training power in watts, while exercise bikes only indicate a load level.
- Unlike exercise bikes, ergometers are electronically adjusted and also feature precise load control and a high display accuracy. This makes ergometers very suitable for therapeutic use in health centres, physiotherapies, fitness centres or at home.
What you always wanted to know about bicycle ergometers
If you want to exercise on the cycle ergometer at a certain preset resistance or wattage, the braking system ensures that the exercise intensity is adjusted. The increase in intensity is done by the braking system slowing down the flywheel, making it harder to move the disc. The consequence is that the fitness training becomes more strenuous. Most ergometers use the magnetic brake system. The magnetic brake used is usually an electronically controlled eddy current brake . Since this system has no moving parts, unlike a mechanical or motorized magnetic brake, such ergometers are very quiet, almost silent, and their braking systems are very durable.
Speed-dependent vs. speed-independent ergometers
With speed-dependent ergometers, such as, for example, the Spirit Fitness XBU55 ergometer, the current pedaling power is displayed in watts. With speed-independent ergometers, such as the Ergo-Fit Cycle 400 Home, the wattage can be set. If the user pedals faster, the pedalling resistance is reduced. If the pedalling frequency is too low, the pedalling resistance is increased. In this way, the user always remains at the preset wattage level. With a speed-independent ergometer, the user trains at the exact power level specified by him or her or by the doctor. This is why speed-independent ergometers are also suitable for therapy and rehabilitation or for top-level sport.
Future-oriented and individual home training with digitally equipped ergometers and exercise bikes
Ergometers and exercise bikes are equipped with training computers that offer a variety of programs: pre-programmed load profiles, watt- and pulse-controlled programs, interval programs, as well as user-defined training programs are part of the offer. With many ergometer models, the programs can be programmed via mobile apps or computers via PC interface. The training data can also be recorded and evaluated using special training software. User-friendly displays show exact and comprehensive training statistics such as time, distance, watts, heart rate, wheel rotation, etc. - for an optimal workout.
Motivation and fitness through individual training profiles
Pulse-controlled programs, such as those on the Circle Fitness B8 erg ometer or Tunturi E60 ergometer, automatically control the target pulse after entering the desired training pulse (for fat burning or endurance training) by lowering or increasing the pedalling resistance. Pre-programmed training profiles, as is common with most ergometers, increase motivation by providing a varied workout.
